One of the things I appreciate about my photo walks is that oftentimes it helps to improve my mood. On this day back in late September I was set to meet with my client's leadership team. They were in the midst of coming up with a reopening plan for the staff as well as the clients the organization serves. I was also dealing with my kids returning to school, albeit remotely. Meanwhile, I was beginning to transition back to going into the office on a consistent basis.
These were just a couple of things I was dealing with when I set out that morning to work. It would have been easy to use that as an excuse to skip out on taking photos. However, I've come to realize that photography has been a source of tension relief during this pandemic. Seeing my city in motion was good for my soul.
As is my practice, I left home early enough so that I could take some photos on the way to my client's worksite. It was a nice day, so I decided to take a different route. I got off the subway at 86th street and Lexington Avenue. I then headed north along Lexington Avenue until I reached my office. That's roughly 1.5 miles. I took just under an hour to walk. Keep in mind that I wasn't rushing, and that I'm stopping along the way to take photos.
In terms of camera gear, I used my GoPro Hero 7 camera to record the hyperlapse video. Still images were captured with my Nikon D7500 camera with my 50mm/f 1.8 prime lens attached.
I'm so glad that I have this photography work. It's really helped me navigate these demanding times we're all living through. I hope you're enjoying it as well.
