May 25, 2021 marks the one year anniversary of George Floyd's murder by the police. George Floyd's murder left his family and community emptier. In 2020 it also prompted a wave of global protests that continue to this day. Over the past year I've had the opportunity to bear witness, as a photographer, to history in the making. Sadly, I've seen plenty of cruelty and indifference against marginalized people.

Yet, I've seen people from different walks of life unite to fight against police violence, homophobia/transphobia, and other injustices. I've observed people come together and form mutual aid groups to address food insecurity, bail people out of jail, as well as create spaces for healing and joy. In the midst of so much pain, rage, and grief, I saw people engaged in, as John Lewis would say, "good trouble."

I created this video as a reminder to myself that, even when it seems like the problems of the world are too big, that there is value in the fight itself. So that's what I'll continue to do. I hope it can inspire you to be a part of the solution as well.

RIP George Floyd. May justice and peace come for all those harmed or being harmed by cruel individuals and institutions, whether here or around the world.
