Content Warning: the video contains images related to police violence.

George Floyd was murdered by Minneapolis police officers on May 25, 2020. His murder left his family and community emptier. It also prompted a wave of global protests that continue to this day. Since this unfortunate event I've had the opportunity to bear witness, as a photographer, to history in the making. Sadly, I've seen plenty of cruelty and indifference against marginalized people as well.

Yet, I've seen people from different walks of life unite to fight against police violence, homophobia/transphobia, and other injustices. I've observed people come together and form mutual aid groups to address food insecurity, bail people out of jail, as well as create spaces for healing and joy. In the midst of so much pain, rage, and grief, I saw people engaged in, as John Lewis would say, "good trouble."

I created this video as a reminder to myself that, even when it seems like the problems of the world are too big, that there is value in the fight itself. So that's what I'll continue to do. I hope it can inspire you to be a part of the solution as well.

RIP George Floyd. May justice and peace come for all those harmed or being harmed by cruel individuals and institutions, whether here or around the world.
